Hand care: The Missing Step in Your Anti-Ageing Routine

March 9, 2019

Our hands are constantly exposed to the elements, yet hand care slips at the bottom of our beauty priorities. Here are 3 simple steps to help your hands look and feel good at any age:

  • Sun protection.  UV rays damage the DNA in skin cells which induces the formation of dark spots and uneven pigmentation. Yes, age spots have nothing to do with age! They are the result of unprotected sun exposure. If you don't want your hands covered in brown spots, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day and reapply after washing your hands.

  • Exfoliate.  As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and natural hydration which causes veins under the skin to become prominent and makes our hands look crepey. Regular exfoliation will remove dead cell build-ups and put your skin's renewal process in boot camp. Use a retinol exfoliator to improve the overall texture of the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

  • Hydrate. You probably put a lot more thought into choosing your face cleanser than you did your hand soap. But how often do you wash your face compared to your hands? Harsh detergents strip natural oils from the skin and leave your hands dry and susceptible to irritation. To protect them use a rich, nourishing crème and reapply regularly throughout the day, especially after contact with water.
